Pembagian Warisan (Faraidh) 2.3.8

"Warisan" or heritage in Arabic is known as attirkah, the possessions left behind by the deceased, which are assets and rights that are to be distributed among the eligible heirs.

"Pembagian Harta Warisan" or Inheritance Distribution Application, also known as Inheritance Calculator, is an application designed to teach how to calculate inheritance based on Islamic law. The knowledge of fara'id (faraid / fariodh / faroid), commonly referred to as inheritance science, discusses the division of inheritance or the explanation of inheritance matters.

The purpose of fara'id (inheritance science) is to safeguard the deceased's assets from being taken by those who are not entitled to them and to prevent individuals from wrongfully consuming others' property or unlawfully claiming orphaned children's rights. This is what Allah SWT means in His decree: "And do not consume one another's property unjustly." (Al-Baqarah [2]: 188)

Individuals knowledgeable in fara'id (inheritance science) are becoming scarce, and inheritance distribution governed by Islamic law is not widely practiced by Muslims themselves. If a person passes away leaving behind an inheritance, failing to promptly distribute it to the rightful heirs may result in the estate dissipating without proper allocation.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) foresaw such circumstances, emphasizing the importance for us Muslims to acquire knowledge in fara'id (inheritance science). As time progresses, this knowledge may fade, leading individuals to neglect the rightful distribution of estates according to Islamic law.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Learn the fara'id (inheritance distribution) and teach it to others. I am just a human whose life is nearing its end. Indeed, knowledge will also gradually vanish. Trials will come until a dispute arises between two persons regarding inheritance, and they both fail to find someone to resolve their conflict." (Narrated by Al-Hakim)

Studying fara'id (inheritance science) is considered fardhu kifayah, meaning if there are individuals within a certain community knowledgeable about this subject, others are not obliged to study it. However, if no one within a community possesses such knowledge, then the entire community bears sin.

Why is Islamic inheritance law deemed an essential legal aspect classified under fardhu kifayah? Regarding this matter, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Learn the fara'id and teach it because it is half of knowledge and will be forgotten first from my nation." (Narrated by Ibn Majah and Daruqutni)

The warning from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) holds true today. Many scholars have expertise in various fields, yet the knowledge of fara'id (inheritance science) continues to be overlooked.
